another beautiful early morning in
western Massachusetts

the old man
is kneeling
face towards the ground
hands gently clearing the soil
planting a seedling
old style floppy fishing hat
shades his eyes from the early morning sun
hands replacing the soil
he leans back
and surveys his work
placing his hand on the ground
he listens, he feels, he smiles
the mother hears and responds
